Regarding volcanic eruption at Holuhraun
Due to a volcanic eruption at Holuhraun (north of Dyngjujökull) the Icelandic Transport Authority would like to stress to pilots that caution should be exercised when flying in the vicinity of a volcano.
If considered necessary The Icelandic Transport Authority will define a restricted area around the source of the volcano.
The Icelandic Transport Authority iterates that pilots shall familiarize themselves with valid NOTAMs and SIGMETs before taking off. Pilots are responsible for maintaining separation from other aircraft and shall report their position and other useful information on the appropriate frequency.
Two Aeronautical Information Circulars (AIC) have been issued with guidance on aircraft operation in case of volcanic ash.
- Aircraft operators: refer to AIC A 005/2014
- General aviation: refer to AIC B 006/2014
