Air traffic and the volcano in Geldingadalur - 26.3.2021

There is a high demand for viewing the eruption at Reykjanes from the air. For safety reasons, a maximum number of aircraft has temporarily been defined for BIR2 (Vestursvaedi). The maximum at any one time is eight aircraft and is based on the best VFR conditions. See valid NOTAM. Attention is drawn to the fact that the maximum applies to the entire BIR2 - not the immediate vicinity of the volcano. When flying in the immediate vicinity of the volcano, pilots must ensure that the number of aircraft is such that flight safety can be ensured.

Regulation exempting vaccinated non-Schengen travelers from travel restrictions to come into force on 6 April - 26.3.2021

The Minister of Justice of Iceland has decided that the previously announced decision to exempt from travel restrictions those who can provide proof of vaccination or prior infection will take effect on 6 April. The change in regulation will allow travelers from non-Schengen countries, who meet the criteria, to travel to Iceland for non-essential reasons.

Stricter COVID-19 measures at the Icelandic border from 1 April - 24.3.2021

Iceland’s Minister of Health has decided to impose stricter border measures at the recommendation of the Chief Epidemiologist. Changes will take effect on 1 April and will affect children and those traveling from areas that are classified as dark red or grey by the ECDC (where the 14-day incidence rate exceeds 500 or insufficient data is available).
